What would happen to the planets population? Could these things, as heartbreaking as they are on an individual basis, be a necessary evil?

I think you're right! I also believe that we keep alive far too many people who should have died...like the lady in Florida who was kept alive for years on machines. Poor thing...how undignified. brrrr - gives me chills thinking about it!

Yes, I agree. The world would get extremely overpopulated, but thats not the only problem...I think as humans, we will get emotionally messed up if we absolutley never face any of those heartbreaking challenges. After all, the things that don't kill us do make us stronger. What would the world be like if we never lost a loved one? If we never felt a loss? I am sorry to say it but everything happens for a reason. It would be wonderful to find a cure for all of those deadly diseases, but if we're meant to die we will anyway, I don't think anybody will ever find a cure from death. I believe you are right, that some evil is necessary because that makes us appreciate life and the goodness in it. I just wish that evil didn't have to hurt as much...
