Because the earth is round, and if you made your flat map a oval(circle), the oceans would connect and become one!

As you know, the earth is round. So if you join the two flat sides with the pacific ocean on it, you make the original pacific ocean.

Lola, it's because there are two Pacific Oceans, the East Pacific and the West Pacific. If you travel too far on either of them, you will of course fall off the end of the Earth, as you can see on the map.

whan you have a globe the ocean separates asia and the u.s so on a flat map its not round so the u.s and asia are way far from each other
