I'm searching for a career, and since I was born in Italy, I decided that I would move back. Thing is, I don't really know whether Italy needs English teachers, or where they are needed inside Italy. I would appreciate it if you could give me some tips relating to these topics. Thanks -R. Mayer-

I taught in Torino for two years. There was a high demand for Business English teachers there. Italians aren't so keen on sending their young kids to extra English lessons (like say, Asian parents) but businesses use English lessons as an incentive to retain employees. You've definitely got to be prepared for in-company classes (so consider buying a car), but if you've got EU citizenship you should easily be able to find a job. There is higher demand in the North because there are more successful businesses there. No matter how much you want to live in Florence there just isn't the population base to require extra teachers (on top of international university students). Milan is a growing market but it's very expensive to live in the area.

Oh, and to get a job in any decent school in Italy you'll need a Bachelor's degree and a TESL certificate (like the CELTA). I would suggest doing your CELTA through International House and looking for jobs in their network of schools. I think they have one in the Milanese suburbs that is currently hiring.

english teachers are needed everywhere, i am currently working as an english teacher in poland. you can either work for a language school, a state school, a private business (whereby you teach the employees) or as a private teacher who places ads. however, you will need a qualification such as CELTA or CELTYL or a standard TEFL course. you will be amazed at the response if you start sending some CVs to some likely places, in Italy and beyond.
