Are the drivers for the CD burner properly installed? If not you'd need to install them, and that should fix your problem.

Go here and download the free Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
It takes only a few seconds to download. Click the Belarc icon on your desktop, and you will see a profile of your computer. Look under "Drives" and see if the CD-ROM is listed. If it is, you might need burning software or an updated driver.
Do a search for a driver or burning software or driver under the brand name of your cd.
If it isn't shown, the audio cable from the cd-rom might not be connected securely to the sound card. If so, get a tech to help you.
With Windows XP, you can burn a CD without outside software.
Good luck.

Are you sure the PC has a CD RW if yes and your OS is Windows XP turn off all power then hit the start button to drain any remaining power unplug the cables to the drive and start up the PC when you have desktop shut down the PC (you have now cleared the drivers) reconnect the cables and start your PC Windows XP will make new drivers for your CD RW if you have any soft ware that came with the CD RW load that as well (if you need it) :)
