Because it is not their birth parent, and usually when their is a "step" involved that means that the childs (teens) whole life was disrupted by a divorce. Why would anyone automatically like the person who is replacing their biological parent, when that is the only parent (mom or dad) they have ever known. As they get older they will come around, but you can not force a new parent on a teen or child.

Yes, it is so far the most hated on trend. But yes most people will see someone that looks emo, go along with the wikipedia definition they looked up and what they heard from other people regardless of actually meeting a few and getting to know them and then decide that those type of people shouldn't be liked. They get alot of sh*t for the way they looked so people can't say that emo's make up their problems when it is society that is the problem for them.

In general, kids(especially teens) are looking for independence. They push the limits of what is allowed as a natural part of growing up. Now they get a new "authority figure" in their lives who is taking on a parental position so there is bound to be a natural dislike.

Sometimes it is the fault of the other parent. My ex told my daughter that he is her only father and as such no one else can tell her what to do or discipline her. So when my new Husband came into the picture and she had already had an attitude. She dont even remember her dad doing it but I do.

Because there not there biological parent and stepfathers/stepparents try to act like they are nice. What you have to do if you are a stepparent then you have to take them out go to the park get something to eat later ask them what they like and dislike.

no one wants to take orders or follow rules from someone they don't see as a 'real' authority figure.
that's why i teach my daughter to listen to 'adults' not just 'your parents'.
even at schools now kids don't listen because they don't consider teachers authority figures either.
i think all kids should be taught that they need to listen to 'all' adults, not just the ones they were produced by.
