In Formula One, if there is a really bad accident, then the race will be stopped. However, there have been instances when drivers voluntarily stopped at the scene of an accident in an effort to rescue a driver. Probably the most notable example happened at the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
On the second lap of the race, Niki Lauda's car swerved off the track, hit an embankment and rolled back into the path of Brett Lunger's Surtees-Ford. Lauda's car burst into flames, but, unlike Lunger, he was trapped in the wreckage. Drivers Arturo Merzario and Guy Edwards stopped and came to his rescue.
Nowadays, there is a far greater emphasis on safety, with a medical team standing by and usually on the scene of an accident quickly, so there is no need for other drivers to stop.

When I raced I never wanted to see anyone hurt but during crash periods I would concentrate on racing hard (English tracks usually only have local yellows). There was a good opportunity to close a gap if the guy in front was preoccupied by the crash.

The safest place for the driver(s) is in their cars. The sanctioning body will decide if the race is red flagged to insure the safety of the driver, emergency crew and fans. Each track has an infield care center and helocopter and ambulace available to transport any injury.

They can't do anything for them anyways so why stop the race. In football, if someone breaks a leg, they finish the game. Just because one person has some bad luck doesn't mean everything needs to stop.

Those super cars are traveling at around 200mph. They can't just stop and start like a Honda at a traffic light.

That's just the way it is; every driver accepts the risk when they get behind the wheel, and they don't stop just because someone gets a boo-boo.

They don't stop because its the decision of the officials not the drivers themselves. If the accident is as bad as a death...They'll stop it!
