My babygirl, who is 15mo. suddenly got a really bad rash. She is up to date on her shots, didnt have a cold or fever or anything, and i hadnt changed anything recently like food or soap....it was all over her body..face, back, tummy, arms/legs and diaper area...took her to the doc and they tested her for strepthroat wich came back negative and did some blood work on her. They gave me an antibiotic for her but never really gave me a reason for the rash. The doc said that sometimes small children's bodies fight against something and a rash can appear. Kind of frustrating not knowing a specific reason for it...anyone else have this happen? or been told the same thing??

The EXACT same thing happend to my 14month old daughter last month. After lots of tests they determined that it was just a virus she picked up somewhere and it would clear up on it's own, and it did. Sometimes their little immune systems fight of viruses with rashes rather than getting coughing colds or runny noses. So, sorry, no specific reason. But be careful giving antibiotics for things they can't pinpoint. Overuse of antibiotics is a huge problem.

My son just had the exact same thing happen to him... except he had a fever. As long as it is not bacterial there is nothing to worry about. Did they run a white blood cell count on her? This will tell them if her antibodies are running ragged. I'm suprised that they put her on antibiodics though. They didn't do that with my son they just sent him home, with a fever and rash, and said give him a bath, give him some love, let him take a nap. Worked like a charm. 2 days later the rash was gone and my little happy boy was back.
Best of Luck!

I would be leary of giving an antibiotic without a specific diagnosis indicating it is responsible to do that. Overuse of antibiotics creat "super bugs" that are incurable by antibiotics. And if it's anything but a bacterial infection, the antibiotics are useless.

I would insist on more tests if it is worrisome, or a really good reason for antibiotics. Fighting against "something" is not a very specific diagnosis. And I know sometimes you can't get a specific diagnosis, but I suspect your doc just wanted to get you out of the door (maybe she'll go away if I prescribe something-type attitude).

my little girl had a rash appear one morning when we work up little red blotches all I could do was call my mama we called the doc and took her in I was told the same the only change I could recall was she had ate gerbers tamato and noodles they decided that that was a little too much acid for her but her rash cleared up almost by the next day I would go to a web site like web md and look around at picts just to reassure myself and if it gets worse or doesnt clear up get her back to the doc good luck

I hate to think that's the best answer a doctor can come up with. Neither of my babies had that. However, as much as we know about the human body, there are still plenty of mysteries, and babies are full of mysteries.

Yes, when my daughter was 11 months. Turned out it was food allergies. Didn't find out until the next reaction which was almost deadly.
Hope this isn't the cause for your child.
Good Luck.

Try to visit a doctor whose speciality is Autoimmunity

It may be her body fighting againt himself...............It's a common prob & easily solved IF discovered early.

Wish u & ur baby a good health
