seafarer: my mistake, gereralization! i presumed you've been around the world. I too have a beautiful , very intelligent seafarer sister on board cruise ships. We have mixed ancestral blood of filipino, chinese, and spanish, so, she don't opt for other race without love. With money, she gets a high paying job.She did once had a handsome british bf but the relationship was ruined by a filipina friend who got them into some business scam of 10 million pesos
What pissed sister off is that the whites generally treated filipinas as whores, disloyal to relationships and marry whites only for the money, conveniences, Of course, its insulting as our parents raised us not as
opportunist. We got relatives of chinese, spanish, and filipino blood around the globe but we prefer to sacrifice and enjoy our life in the land that raised us well.
i still look forward for reasons why SOME prefer foreigners, beyond money, i hope.

vaseline...u r absolutlely correct, but corruption is not monopolized only in the phil, it is all over the world, it is corrupt because we made it so, we let it grow more by tolerating and leaving the less fortunate be trampled upon because we, the stronger, prefer not to meddle for fear our assets be affected.
we should help one another to straighten our homeland, our family, our blood, even using pseudonym can break corruptions. Failing, we keep on, at least we tried.

better life? of course almost everyone wants that, but, are we going to be happy as the proverbial bird in a golden cage. For for our own successes, not relying from the fortunes of others, "the cinderella complex" some would say. But many regreted it, having been in a foreign land, unfamiliar with the laws of nuptial agreements, in the end, the unfortunate young girls when consumed by old age of 30's are discarded like rag dolls, allotted to backward community brothels until they die of diseases or take their own lives. Yeah, happy are those back home who have somehow sold the life and blood of their young wives, sisters, daughters.
of course, there are rare exceptions, like those you have worked with, introduced by families or trusted friends, and so on.

There is an unwarranted generalization in your question. Just because many Filipinas have married foreigners does not mean that this is a preference among all Filipinas. You might ask why Russian women prefer foreigners because you will find many advertisements for Russian or Eastern European 'mail order brides' in the US and Europe. In both cases, an assumption on national preference is incorrect. What one might conclude is that economics may motivate these women to seek out foreigners (specifically, Westerners), but then again, that may only apply to those particular women.
A good Filipina friend of mine tells me that many Filipinas think that Filipino men are more likely to be unfaithful; that they are always their best when courting then act differently after marriage. That generalization may be unfair to Filipino men, but that perception might be a non-economic reason to prefer non-locals mates.
After almost 400 years of Western colonization you might also consider the ingrained thinking among some Filipinos that European looks and skin are better than their own. It's a sad fact that racism of this kind does exist in the Philippines. Again, that is among some Filipinos.
Best thing to know is that generalizations are never a good thing when trying to understand a people or their culture. There are just as many shallow women as there are shallow men in the world. Filipinas are no different than any other women - at least in that respect.

The Philippines is a 3rd world country. Filipinos value education alot, mostly are college graduates. Salaries here are just to meet the needs for daily living. Just imagine, some college graduates, still jobless.
Some teachers go to Hongkong to work as domestic helper. Salaries of domestic helpers are more higher in Hongkong than in the Philippines.
Some college graduates go to the USA as tourist, later on they become illegal aliens. They will search for future husbands there so that their stay will be legalized.
Doctors here in the Philippines now take up Nursing just to be able to go to the USA. Most of them are bigtime doctors in well known hospitals and yet they still take up the course. Their answer is, they are already contended with their careers, what they want to save is the next generation. That includes their children & grandchildren.
Not only doctors, nurses, but also pharmacists are in demand in abroad. However, the problem here is there is no agency, if available, it is also expensive. I have a friend who was sponsored by an agency. Her exam in the US & her fare roundtrip is free. Though this is rare. Pharmacists are looked down here in the Phiippines. However, in the US, Pharmacists has a doctorate level and they give counselling to their clients. Doctors even ask the pharmacists what the correct dosage is & about drug interaction.
The vision is that there will be a brain drain in the Philippines not only for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, caregivers, teachers & even pilots.
Other people who are in other careers like attoneys also take up the nursing course . It is the hope of everybody to get out of the country sooner or later.
Some Filipinos really do it the hard way by studying and getting down their level to be able to go to the US someday. There are more agencies hiring nurses abroad. So it is the fastest way out.
Therefore, not all Filipinas will marry foreigners just to go abroad. They sweat it out also . Most Filipinas still want to marry Filipinos.
I am a Filipino American. I still would want to marry a Filipino! I hope that you dont look down on Filipinas, not all are prostitutes & not everybody are out to marry foreigners.

For the "foreigners": You will never know what you missed out on. I got the best one of them all.
For the Filipinas: Sorry but the best man is already taken.
To all others: People marry for a variety of reasons. I'm in the US Marines and met my Filipina wife in Japan in 2003. She was not a prostitue and her family lives comfortably in the Phils. If you ask me why she married me, I will honestly say it wasn't for money, but for love. For me....well, I caught something called "yellow fever" a long time ago while travelling in the Marines. I have found the Filipinas to be the most attractive, modest, and loving women in the world. I am 25 and my wife is 23. I'm not one of those old men who get taken advantage of by a young girl. There are many horror stories and rumors stemming from Filipinas marrying foreigners and I can tell you that many of them are true. But let me tell you, the ones that stay together and work things out because of love....no matter the circumstances of their meeting or marriage, ive to be some of the happiest couples with beautiful children. I work hard to provide for my wife, and she works hard making me happy. Just don' assume to know every person's intentions ust because you heard some rumors. I can tell you first hand, those rumors cause much hurt and anger in that couple's relationship. If anything, encourage them. That's all the Marine has to say.

im not quite sure why. i think its the same way people view Filipinos and other Asian ladies as exotic. my mother (a Filipino) married my father (an American) because of the love they had. but yes my mother was also very much into marrying a White man since she was little. she said she saw a white male when she was little and thought he was so exotic and wanted to be with one. i dint believe she did it for the money or for other reasons other than love. but i do know of some Filipinas doing it for that reason. some for the mestiza children and others for their children to maybe have a better life by being brought to a different country especially when it came to the military husbands/boyfriends that some filipinas were with. but it just depends on individual basis i believe

Not only do Filipinos learn English as a second language, love Western music, TV, and culture, the entire country was freed by the US from both the Spanish and Japanese in WWII. We have a long history there and their government system is based on ours and have long been our allies. It's only natural that Filipino ladies would be attracted to their ideal, seemingly godlike benefactors and international friends. They want to learn English, get educations, wear Western clothes, whiten their skin, and be like Americans. It's no wonder some girls take the next step and try to meet foreigners in order to come to America and make all their dreams of being American and becoming wealthy through hard work. It's not just about the money, it's about a culture who admires another culture so much they embrace them, want to be like them, even want to become them. If the girls just wanted cash, were beggars, liars and such, then there wouldn't be any marriages because American men wouldn't deal with those types. No, they want us, love us, and aren't compromising anything when they marry us.

There are probably a lot of reasons and here are a few,
1/ to improve their present life "because all foreigners are rich" and can therefore give them some of the things they see on television.
2/ sometimes for love.
3/ it is a way for them to escape the poverty of their home.
4/ it is another way that they can help their other family members
5/ the majority of foreigners are considered handsome no matter what they look like
6/ females outnumber males therefore the local choices are very limited

Because many foreigners also prefer to marry a filipina !
They almost love each other very much and they are very attracted by their differences.
Then it's true, their kids are definitely cute and joyfully.
I don't think that money is the "must" of the story , but as we use to say:
"Better healthy and rich than poor and sick"...
Human beings considerations probably ... ;))

well as GigiBF said a while ago, they would like to have mestizo/mestiza blood so that they would look partly filipino. but i was always wondering what if a filipina fell in love with a malaysian or indonesian for example. would their children look half-filipinos? nah, don't think so.... :p
