Yes, there is such a thing as a giant squid. Some scientists believe they can get to about 37 feet and weigh 600 pounds. There's also another species of squid that is quite large called the colossal squid which has a mantle, that's the "head" of the animal, that is twice as big as a giant squid but much shorter arms making it about the same overall size.

Yup, they do exist! Check the link below from the National Geographic. They were able to photograph the first live giant squid. In the news a month or two back, some fishermen found part of a dead giant squid - which would have been the largest found thus far. They get HUGE! There are many related links on this page that will give you more information. Good luck!

Yes, I just saw a special yesterday about the first photos taken of a live giant squid. A (moving) tentacle was stuck to the camera line when they brought it up and since it was almost 20 ft long, they estimated the size of the squid to be around 30 ft.

The animal—which measures roughly 25 feet (8 meters) long—was photographed 2,950 feet (900 meters) beneath the North Pacific Ocean. Japanese scientists attracted the squid toward cameras attached to a baited fishing line.
