Some Cable modems have to be reset (remove and reinsert power cord) after you change computer or router.

yes. the router delievers the internet to your computers. if it is not connected you can't get online, even through wireless

if it's wireless, you shouldnt be connected to it. OH do you mean do you always have to be ONLINE 24/7? then the answer is NO, switch it off when you dont want to be online, its safer to do it this way.
