If possible find someone who is not scared to go into the crawl space with a flashlight. It's just possible that an animal went down there for shelter and died. As the animal decomposes, gases are released, which travel up into your house.

The most inexpensive way is to just crawl down there (Or pay someone $20 that you know) to go investigate.

Paying an exterminator is rather pricey for just bagging a dead animal.

If you do decide to go down there, put some vicks vapor rub under your nose, and a surgical mask on... wear gloves and safety glasses... have a nice heavy coat on to make you feel safer. Bring a garbage back and some sort of tool to scrape the dead animal from the crawl space.
