Actually, it does. It's not the talking though. It's that we breath out carbon dioxide and that is what plants breath in.

Plants are really sensitive to energy. This summer I planted a garden and it wasn't doing so well. My female friend said that this was because I planted them and they had only received male energy. My friend touched all the plants in my garden and talked to them and they grew a foot taller that day. You could almost see the plants growing. Some say its the carbon dioxide when you breathe on them. I think its just that like any living thing plants need love to grow. The same friend and I made some really fertile love in that garden and on that spot we planted beans. Those bean plants had beans before other bean plants planted a month prior. They also had the largest yield (out of one pouch of seeds each day for two months enough beans to fill the trunk of my car) and the longest producing period.
As for the male/female energy thing if you ever grow an herb called fennel make sure the only people who touch it are female. If a male touches a fennel plant the plant will droop.
Growing plants should be a very energy conscious process.

Well, the theory is that people who talk to their plants tend to be looking after them at the same time, so of course they grow better!

As plants need CO2 to photosynthisise then talking to them breathes waste human CO2 onto them and can encourage further growth - so yes, talking to plants can help them grow!
(Prince Charles is famous for this one!)

I believe so. I have heard to some people playing music to the plants which they claim as a beneficial effect. It would be interesting to know if any commercial growers have tried this under controlled conditions

Both bradschum and nine kids are spot on it's not the talking it's the exhaling of carbon dioxide that aids the growth of plants.

dont know for sure, not tried iot mmyself, but just cos its a plant, n according to scientists, doesnt have inteligence, or the power of thought, or even the ability to communicate, doesnt mean its true.
try an experiment grow two identicle plants, talk to and encourage one, n ignore the other..
let us know the results.

There actually is a scientific reason that it works...when you talk, you do a lot of exhaling of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), which is like oxygen to plants. So it has a benefit...whether or not they can conciously pay attention to your words is another thing!

the mythbusters did an experiment with this. they had a group of plants that they talked to nicely, one they shouted insults at, one they played loud rock music for and one they did nothing with......the only group of plants that seemed to exhibit any significant difference in growth was the one they played the loud rock music for. i'm not really sure what this means.
