It's bronze for helmet, body armor, and weapons. They used wooden shields wrapped in leather then bronze plate or they laquered wooden shields to harden it. Steel wasn't fully developed yet throught Europe until their medieval times. However, during Hellenistic times, iron working and iron smelting was fully developed in India, Sri Lanka, and China who produced high quality steel.
