They don't matter. But they feel they have an interest because of the blood relation to your son.
If you are not fully divorced then you can request that a custody evaluator be brought in to sort through the mess -- a good evaluator knows how to separate the lies, fears, and assumptions from what is in reality in the best interest of the child.
Evaluators are not inexpensive, but worth it because they have more standing with the courts than you do. That said, you need to be emotionally prepared to accept his/her recommendation if you want to have any chance of regaining custody of your son. By which I mean, "what if the evaluator agrees with your husband?" Can you graciously accept that for now, or not.
If you are divorced already, I don't know what to recommend as well -- the options are more limited but you should talk to an attorney who works regularly with custody evaluators, DFS, etc. to learn what you need to do to get back into court to request a modification of the decree and parenting plan.

Sorry it's a court thing. The court gives out papers for you to go around to family and friends to get their view on who is the best parent. My wife did the same thing to me. She had all her doctor friends tell everyone I was a jerk. I in turn went to her family and friends and because I WAS the best choice for custody, they trashed her savagely! I got custody and that's that. I'm not trying to put you down, but when the court sides with the husband it's usually an open and shut case. If you continue to abuse the court system and try to get them back over and over again, your kids are the only ones that will suffer! I know. My wife had unlimited $ and the kids were extremely unhappy, and could have turned out way better.

because a son in law is part of him. and to tell u the truth, the children should always stay with mom i n my opinion because they had to go through the pain to give it birth. unless u did something wrong then i don't know but i really hope things go well

society has built this process up over the years so the lawyers can get paid and other people involved will get their share too.
