1. Provide a brief outline of the plot;
2. describe the point of view (1st person or 3rd person omniscient) and its role in the story;
3. describe the main character and its role in the story;
4. describe any conflicts or turning-points;
5. analyze figures of speech (metaphors, symbols, etc.);
6. sum up the meaning [message] of the story (from your own point of view);
7. try not to extrapolate the text, that is, avoid reading TOO much into the story.

Note: it all depends on the number of pages (or paragraphs); if you have to write just one paragraph (or sentence), stick exclusively to item (6).
