good quality angel fish are always wanted.

you'd have to pay hundreds of dollars for a quality mating pair and give them space and quality food... they will breed quite a bit...

I run a fish department in a pet shop, and to tell you the truth there really is'nt any money to be made in selling fish, I have customers calling daily just wanting to give cichlids away, the last batch I got were convicts and I had so many that I was selling them 3 for 5 bucks.
I think that the only money making fish out there these days are bettas, we sell about 30 a week for $5.99 each and purchase them for .90 cents.
Clubs are a good way to trade fish and sell the odd nice breeder, look into one in your area, they usually hold monthly meetings.

I bought a pair of Convict Cichlids, they bred very fast and I was able to sell the brood back to the pet shop I got them from. I also was lucky enough to get a breeding pair of Firemouths. Although they were not as willing to breed like the Convicts were. The conditions have to be near perfect for Cichlids to breed in a tank.

talk to the pet store first.. find out what kind of fish is popular but they have a hard time getting.. that is the one you should breed however I warn you...
most pet stores get all their fish from one supplier already - they dont get guppies from one guy... goldfish from another.. and cichlids from another..
they dont pay much per fish.. only a few cents but have large mark ups...
you would be better off breeding and attending fish shows and selling to other breeders and privately than to sell to pet stores...in fact if you have space I would set up 40 tanks in your basement and apply for a home business permit and breed/sell cichlids out of your own home.. get your tanks and supplies from a wholesaler.. and sell fish food too... (dont sell tanks or big stuff other than fish and food - or you wont get the permit)
