Most stores have now removed Red Devil Lye from their shelves as it is apparently used by crystal meth makers, I know - I tried to get some to clean out a 30 year old waste pipe, and cannot get it now.
In quantities you can buy it on-line but you will be buying probably 50 lbs minimum a time.
It is used by those folk who make their own Bio-Diesel from waste vegetable oil, also you know you can make soap from that too??
Glycerine is the waste product from making Bio-Diesel, and if the mix is disturbed when processing, they end up with soap unintentionally.
Good luck

Using lye can be very dangerous. It can sting and even blind, or burn the eyes, and sinuses.
Did you know that it's possible to make soap lye free? It's nice for the skin, too, because lye soaps can be very drying.
A 100% vegetable glycerin soap is really nice. I can't believe the difference in skin after using it. Doesn't break down the skin when you wash.

A hardware store. Look at the granular drain cleaners. Many of them are pure lye.
