I also adivse that you try running hot water over the lid. You could also take this a step forward by letting the jar (at least the top part) soak in hot water for a few hours. Also, if you have any teens (or kids in that age range) hanging around where you live, you could (if desperate enough) always make it a "competition" to see who can open the jar. With enough youngin's trying to open it, eventually they should together loosen the lid enough for one of them to be able to get it open. Promise them $5 or $10 dollars for it. Or if you really want to get them going, promise a $5 iTunes gift card. They're really easy to get and should appeal to that age group. Hope this helped some. Good luck!

If you want to keep the pickels in the same jar, the answers that recommended prying under the lid are correct. However I would be careful not to put too much pressure on the glass jar when prying, it could crack. If I were you, I would punch a small hole in the lid to relief pressure from jar. Yes you won't be able to re-use the lid but you will get your tastey pickels that you have been starving for the last two days..................:)

with the palm of your hand hit the bottom of the jar sharply 2 or 3 times.

or take a can opener, the kind with the triangular shape at one end, and gently lift the edge of the lid in 2 or 3 different places. this helps to break the seal also.

:o) or take it back to the store and get another jar!

Remember those old coke bottle caps? Remember you used to have a cap top remover? Sometimes on the hand can opener?

Use that to pop the top and relieve the vaccum.

Running hot water on something expands the air inside and eases the vacuum, that is why you can open something after running hot water on it.

Often poping top with hand causes you pain with no gain
