I'd chose some way to have each person celebrating his life write an answer to a common question. For instance, on something as simple as a index card (or as complex as a square of fabric to be made into a quilt) a statement / question could be offered like, "This is how you made a difference in my life." which would create a story of his life as seen from other people's view. As one becomes older the pressing question of "what did I accomplish?" becomes more and more of a weight. Without the gimmicks of greeting cards he can be honored in a special way. The could be read by someone facilitating the party without saying who wrote it, or he could read them. You get the idea, I bet. In the final decade of a person's life "things" matter less, so material gifts aren't as valuable. This all is assuming he has a warm home, enough food, and clothing on his body. Another (or additional) great gift is a gift card from a supermarket where he can buy all the chocolate (that was my Mom's favorite food when she was 90) he wants!

Take her out to dinner. you could by no skill circulate incorrect with present certificates so she ought to purchase her very own cd's, video clips, clothing, etc. Or once you're desperate, chilly no longer hassle-free funds and a card works everytime (even nonetheless impersonal, and an hassle-free way out) good day, even a gas card! circumstances are difficult for a 21 year previous.
