What is the plot of Halo 3?

The Covenant are still trying to go on their "Great Journey" by triggerring the Rings. They've learned of a single place they can go to to remotely detonate all of the rings at one time. This place is called the ARK, which (I beleive) is the Forerunner object discovered underground in Africa (on Earth) as shown on the H3 Trailer.

The covenant are trying to capture the Earth, and/or trigger the Ark. The humans are fighting for their survival, The flood is going after food. John (Spartan-117) is trying to save the world.

On top of all this, my theory is that Cortana may be partially insane, and attempting to take over everything, as evidenced by "the Cortana Letters" which were a promotional set of letters sent to a journalist from Bungie computers, claiming to be from Cortana, in 1999. Bungie never explained the Cortana Letters, but they certainly remind me of what Cortana says in the Halo 3 trailer.

My theory is that she used timetravel (like the foreunners artifact that did that, in the novels) to go back WITH Spartan-117 to trigger the Halo WAY back in the past.

(In Halo 1 the montior says stuff to Spartan-177 like: "why are you hesitant to do what you've already done?" and more importantly, "The last time you were here you asked me if I'd trigger thee rings if I were you.. and having had a long time to consider your words, I must answer 'yes.. yes I would' ")

There's more than this of course.. it just touches the tip of the iceberg...

As to what it's all going to be about?... in a nutshell: All hell breaks loose and it's your job as masterchief is to protect the human race, and eliminate all threats to it. Will that happen? depends how good you are at playing the game, and what difficulty setting you're using.
