Why is then that we seek beauty, justice, organisation, symmetry and balance in our nature, and then the same thing we find in seemingly random spread of things all around? The generous spread of nature, this rich tapestry of foliage upon the bosom of mother Earth, then the skies, the azure blue skies above, their liberating vastness, and their mild hue that fits to a life long gazing of our eyes, is it all random?
Could this then be the place in the depths of our mind that you mention, where things are but at their best - the place of creation, where all reality is born? May be thoughts come to the surface of our consciousness not so randomly after all, although sometimes without any apparent reason or a clue that we can understand. Do we need to understand the workings of all that is in our mind? Is it possible?
Intuitive thoughts, where do they come form? May be the thoughts emerge from the calm and serene oceans of our essential being, when we sale upon them secure within familiarities of our consciousness – the sphere of light, and the ship for our voyage.
Why does all this look random? Why our experience of being ourselves is unpredictable and of absolutely unknown origin. If we understand where our thoughts come from may be we can know where do we come from?
The reason may be in humble contemplation of the fact that we see only so much that is around us. The circle of our awareness is our consciousness – like a lamp post that we sit under. Beyond this there are things unknown - things that do not connect to the gradual spread of the knowledge that we already have. We cannot grasp any new fact until it is substantiated by what we have already in our grasp. We see all new things only with the help of what we already have in view.
Then if we find the regions of the unknown random than may be our eye has not grown wider enough to take into its view all that should be seen in order to know what is being seen. Then we might find that nothing in existence is random or accidental, and all is there in perfect agreement. The things that do not exist do not come into existence just from nowhere, I believe they are created by our hopes, wishes and prayer inspired by things and people that we already have in lives.

There is no such thing as randomness. There is only causality that we can not or do not predict or follow. From dice and card games to statistical distributions, the results are always the result of a function that, if provided with perfectly replicated variables, would continuously yield the same event.

sorry to get all religious but every action in the universe is the will of god, and is set out for a reason. this doesnt really answer the question so heres another angle, ask what comes first, the thought or the electrical impulse? if it is the thought then it would seem that we have freewill but if it is the other way around then we have none.

Only if the entire universe is, in fact, compleat randomness or chaos.
Many would argue that it is in fact completely ordered according to rules or laws --
But many in mathematics or physics would inform you that at the highest levels of order, all rules break down, and what happens there we term 'chaos' because we are unable to describe it.
Higher consciousness in this manner is both ordered repetition of pattern and order, and at a higher level, randomness (or perhaps, what we term free will.)

Hi >
I am far from a brain expert, but.
If someone says "what is that place called, or what is that person called".
The synapses bang into action after a tick or two, and go "Farnbourough, and his name was George"
I really do not know how that all happens.
I figure that we all remember everything, it is recalling things.

No I don't think so, The brain has many subconscious maintenance tasks to carryout and most thought is a response to stimuli received from the body's sensory receptors, some of the maintenance is the refreshing of predilections.

The mind is a third substance, outside of but controlling matter and energy. The brain is just a tool of an invisible hand.

synaptic connetcions are the links that in turn are the thoughts that you think/recall,ect there is nothing random about them, your subconscious is a very different matter, free will is a concept, you think therefore you are, freedom of thought is an actuality, your actions are governed by your thoughts.FL

Just because your pea brain can't fathom how the brain could work in a systematic way, doesn't mean that it is random.
I think this is the fallacy of "I don't get it.. durrrr!"

Not random at all.
One thought leads to another.
