Kind of internet?

Two old cans and a piece of string.

Nah, High speed is the way to go nowadays. If you want to be completly portable, get a wi-fi network in your house

You can get by with dialup (I am doing so now, but this is not my home machiine), but it can be annoyingly slow, particularly if there are lots of graphics. If you are going to use the machine on the Internet for anything much other than e-mail and an occasional browse, you will definitely be happier with more speed. We had DSL for a number of years; Verizon offered it at a price that was sligtly cheaper than dial-up, and we jumped on it. I found it quite adequate, but the wife likes to download books, digital music, and other large files, so we recently went to cable and it's fine. As long as your machine has an Ethernet port (and it's easy and inexpensive to add one if you don't), you could connect to DSL or cable. Or, you can get a wireless base unit, which will have an Ethernet port which you can connect to either. But if you use wireless, be sure to adequately secure the link against eavesdroppers by specifying to each end of the wireless link the MAC address of the other end. [This is a 12-character code where each character is a digit or one of the letters a-f, and any device intended for Ethernet use will have one on it somewhere.]

Wireless is better you will not be limited to the area that the cord could reach. I take my to classes and home.

Get road runner if its available in your area. Otherwise DSL. Go buy yourself a Linksys Broadband router. The road runner will be available through your local cable provider. DSL is available through the phone company.

I have road runner. My connection if faster vs the dsl connections here.
