If you stipulate that a vibration of the air equals sound the the answer is yes.
If you define a vibration of the ear drum then the answer is no.

If by "if nothing is there to listen to it?" you mean that there is nothing else that would generate sound waves to interfere distract with the sound the tree makes, well my answer is "yes".

The tree would eventually make "a sound" sometime during its existence :). They always make sounds caused by the fluids and its growth. Now depending on the tree and the environment we- the human beings might perceive the sounds or not. With special devices, the sounds can be detected and measured.

Certain animals could hear the substance exchange in the environment and the tree.

Children can perceive lower sounds but not the trees.

If you meant that if a tree would make a sound f there is none to witness it , like if they move behind your back-LOL.

If you meant that if the Sound exists if none hears it...Is the same as if you exists if noone sees you...

Next question, please be more specific.

I assume you would mean if it fell in the forest would it make a sound if no one was there to hear it? I always figured sound was the movement of waves in non-vacuum air. The mass displacement of the tree will make waves - THAT is the sound to me.

Just because there are no antennas (our ears in this case) to pick up the waves doesn't mean the sound doesn't exist. So my answer is YES.

No, because air vibrations only become sound when they are heard.

A tree falling with nobody to hear it will make vibrations but not sound per se.

No, it is a myth to think so! A tree itself cannot make any sound but the leaves may if aided by the wind!

The sound waves are still generated, even if not perceived! :-))

Your next question is about the interaction of the subject and the phenomenon creating perception...

Don't worry about it! It you are there to hear it, revel in the sound. If not, don't give it any thought!

Erudition never gained anyone enlightenment.

of course it would.
the sound isn't there for us superior beings.
the sound happens due to the action of the tree hitting the ground.
does the sun stops shining when we go indoors.?
how presumptuous...

Hmm... if you're looking at it subjectively, then maybe not. If the whole world was deaf, would music exist? Maybe, but no one would classify it as such so to them it wouldn't. But ultimately I think it does. cause you can't deny that it happened, just because you weren't there to witness it.

No, I THINK IT WILL NOT MAKE ANY NOISE.Eventhough they are living beings, they don't make noise like we do.We think that they make noise but actually the noise is due to the wind when it runs through the leaves. This is my opinion.Thank you!!!!!!!!!!111
