Forced marriages are not allowed in this country (I assume you're talking UK?). Arranged marriages are allowed, if both parties give their free consent. A friend's (Sikh) brother really wanted an arranged marriage, his parents were very unhappy about it they wanted him to find a girl himself but they eventually agreed. Many girls have told me they are happy for their parents to 'vet' a bloke before they go out with them, once the girl has asked them to keep an eye out for a prospective boyfriend. In some ways is no different from having your parents hook you up with a person they know at a party, although i wouldn't fancy it myself.

Obviously i'm not talking here about the extremes you read about in the papers. But forced marriages are illegal: the british foriegn office actually has a forced marriage taskforce which rescues british citizens (not all of them female) who have been tricked abroad and held against their will in order to force them to marry.

Forced arranged marriages should not be allowed in ANY country for that matter. No religion actually encourages this.. especially Islam. It is definitely a cultural thing.

This isn't a royalty question, but I'll bite. No, obviously forced marriages should not be alowed anywhere. Did you actually mean arranged marriages? I'm not comfortable with them happenng here, but if both parties wish to do it, I don't see a problem. We just have to crack down on forced marriages and so-called 'honour killings'.

Arranged marriages should be banned in whatever shape or form they come in.
Nobody should be made to do something against their will,no matter what the nationality or religion.
This is one thing that does go against their human rights.
