Essiac tea, brewed from the herbs yourself and Cordyceps mushrooms, most health food stores carry these, drink the tea 2-3 ounces 3 times a day and take 2-3 capsules of the cordyseps 3 times a day, continue about 4 days after you seem to be better.
Essiac boosts the immune system and the cordyceps is specifically for the chest and congestion. Vicks vapo rub is good so continue with that. If the air around you is dry, use a vaporizor or humidifyer when you sleep.

The best cure is to drink clear hot water (or non-caffeinated tea if you can't handle hot water straight). Stop taking the vitamin-c and eat some fruit. The problem with vitamin-c is that if you take it as a pill your body has trouble absorbing it. The other contents of fruit help absorb vitamin-c. You also need vitamin-d to absorb vitamin-c. vitamin-d comes from sunlight and i bet if you've been sick you haven't been outside in a while.
I recommend parsley, sage and/or basil tea as well. Parsley helps dissolve solids in your lungs. The steam from sage tea is very healing for the lungs---you might even try smoking a bit of sage--it will stop the cough and easy any pain in your chest. seriously--you wouldn't think to smoke something when you're coughing but i've seen sage smoking stop coughing fits, asthama attacks, etc. basil tea will clear your sinuses and your lungs.

Boil water in a pan & add a little salt. Boil till you see vapour coming out. Take the pan off the fire, cover you head with a big towel & inhale for as long as you can, you can also add eucalpytus oil or vicks. do this at least 2/3 times a day. This will help you to breathe easily as well as remove all the phlegm

Inhale the steam from some olbas oil.
Get some nice sweets for the cough. The sugar does more good than the flavour.
And then have a good, hot curry. Not only will it clear the sinuses, but the combination of herbs and spices has been proved to be effective against colds.

if its gone to your chest and you have phlegm, it might be bronchitis... you need to have it checked out.. could get worse.. so you might just need a boute of antibiotics.. but as for home remedies.. I find (this sounds awful) but blend up 2 fresh ripe tomatoes with 2 garlic buds and a squeeze of lemon.. drink the glob real fast.. it has healing properties, V-c in the tomatoes, and natural antibiotics in the garlic.. and phlegm removing properties in the lemon.. drink this glob daily and you'll get better fast.. also at night, drink ginger tea.. ginger also relieves congestion and acts like a natural pain releiver.. If you drink coffee, add a dash of cayenne pepper in your coffee..

Gargle with warm salt water for your throat. Zinc tablets can also help with sore throat. Also sit in steamy shower for as long as the water stays hot. Do this several times a day.
