Use young's formula to convert children's dosage to adult dosage. Young's formula says for child's dose C, adult dose A, and child's age g:

A = C[(g+12)/g]. i.e. if the cough medicine is for children 10 and under and the dosage is 2 tablespoons, you should take:

2[(10+12)/10] = 2*2.2 = 4.4 so an adult would take about 4 and a half tablespoons of the children's cough. Check the label to find the specific age limit and dosage for that particular medicine.

yes, but you have to adjust the dosage for an adult.. but ive found these days, nothing seems to work on a cough.. I think pharmacutical companies just put this junk out which is "snake oil remedies" to get your money. Ive shelled out tons of dollars on cough medicine only to couch my head off 5 min later after I took the stuff.. I find that sucking on a hard piece of candy or vicks cough drop is just as effective until you get home, then drink some hot tea with honey and lemon in it.. or tea with ginger powder in it

The medicine for a child is safe for the adult but not the other way round! And you may need larger dose to meet the bulk of the adult body.
