The minimum safe amount of sleep you need is only four and a half hours. Anything more than that is quite okay . What is killing you is not the lack of sleep, but the perception that you haven't slept enough. I have survived seventytwo hours continuously working in an underground tunnel without sleep or food breaks. The human body has tremendous resilience and can cope up with such emergencies. As far as restoring old sleeping pattern is concerned, I would recommend having a spoonfulof honey in a glass of water before you retire for the night. Add a little lime juice if you want to reduce weight a little and skip or reduce the proportion of lime juice if you don't want to shed stones.

How much balance do you have in your life? Stress and lack of perspective will often disrupt our circadian rhythm and throw us out of sync. It sounds like you are stressed about not sleeping, as well as everything else that you perceive is going to impact you during the day. Get plenty of good exercise in your lifestyle. Go for a good walk in the morning and join a yoga / tai chi class for evening exercise. Get into a routine to balance your physical and mental exertions.
Whatever is causing your mind to race during the night is probably not going to actually occur during the middle of the night. Research these on the web and try to take on board some of the ideas behind them:
1. Mindfulness - the practice of living in the now.
2. Autogenic training - a gentle mind-training & healing meditation technique - very simple and effective.
3. Conscious breathing - most adults have forgotten how to breathe properly and it adds weight to anxieties.
Go ahead. What's the worst that could happen?

Are you showing any other symptoms. Getting off medication does not have the side effect of sleep deficiency. Another side effect (irritability, feeling stressed, crowded mind, and RLS [restless leg syndrome]) could be causing you to be unable to get efficient sleep. Keep you eye out for any other changes since you stopped taking your medication. When you observe any other symptoms write them down and bring the list to your doctor. After you fix one of the other changes from getting off your medication you should go back to your normal sleeping habits.

You have undergone a lot, that's bad, but hope you recover from all the less sleep side effects, try avoiding caffeinated products, you should relax with soothing music, hot cocoa and light night walk, try not to over excite or over stress near bed time, you can check for good tips in the free site, www.fitnesshigh.com

I am like that too ~ I can never get a full nights sleep! And have circles under my eyes, I think I worry too much and think about things unconsciously and that keeps me from resting good! I started taking Valerian Root to help me rest and that helps. I used to take Tylenol PM Vanilla but I would wake up with really bad nightmares from it! lol so switched to the Valerian root- maybe try something like that and see if it doesn't help you.

Do the obvious things such as lose weight if you are overweight, make sure you are getting plenty of fluids throughout the day, eat and excercise properly, keep your bedroom as stress free as possible (keep it tidy, switch off any electronics in your room). It may also be advisable to speak to you doctor given that you were on medication.

maybe the stress of going to bed and "knowing" you're not going to sleep well is adding to your problems. possibly you went off your meds too soon. i think you should talk to your doctor again. hope things work out for you.

some of the most genius people in the worls slept for only a few hours a night, ex Thomas Edison would sleep a few here a few there, maybe you could rest during the day also and not try just all in one night.........
