I would have to say all the answers above me are true. People do marry for the wrong reasons or the reasons don't match or the reasons conflict. Getting married because all your friends are getting married is the worse and so is because my biological clock is ticking. I think what happens is that yes the vows are supposed to be sacred but, what happens is their points of view or their reasons are more sacred than a vow to another person and to their higher being. In today's society where doing it your way has become so important, we forget there is another person "sharing" our lives. We are so self absorbed with ourselves that the marriage is not a partnership where 2 people work together it has become a status symbol that we have lost the context or meaning of. Personally, I have always taken words in most vows very seriously. Till death do us part, could be a long time!!! Maybe that is why I have taken looking for the "right" person so seriouly and so long. I have been single all my life, 52 years. Is this the right way or wrong way? It's the way it happened. I take the vows to heart and many do not. They become enamored with the rite of marriage and ceremony and the attention. I keep looking beyond that and see if I could live with the person next to me for the next 30-40 years and be happy. If we all took the vows to heart, that it was like a life or death vow. Maybe not so many people would get married so rashly. Don't you think?

BTW I have a girlfriend now, she wants to marry me but, not for a few years. I have no problem with that. Gives us more time to learn more about each other. She's great.

Good luck

Marriage is sacred and even if all couples divorce, this truth will never be changed. It's just like killing someone is wrong and even if everybody kills somebody, it doesn't make killing right.
I would say there are too many factors affecting people that's why divorce rates are up.
Some would be because they don't really respect the sanctity of marriage and so don't take their vows seriously , others would be because they are emotionally or mentally not mature when they enter marriage, still others would be because they don't have a choice, maybe there might be reasons that are beyond their control like insanity, abuse, etc.

Many people marry for the wrong reasons and don't know the true meaning of love. People allow outside influences to sway their minds away from dealing with marriage. The fact is that being married takes alot of work on both parts and many people just don't try to adjust to that added stress and give up before it gets better.

Because most people have no idea what love is. They mistake lust and passion for love. The first question one should ask him or her self is do they like the person they are thinking of marrying? I have been married to my wife for 37 years and she is my best friend and confidant. The passion fades with age but the bonds of closeness become greater and the love arises to a much higher plain than simply sexual passion or lust. I cannot imagine what my life would be without her. I know that I would not be a happy man.

today in INDIA the marriage laws are such that most eductaed women marry , then file for divorce the very next day claimimg "torture" and claim huge compensation. This way they make a quick buck. Men have no other option but to shell out big money. This seem shocling and you may feel "it will never happen to me" but it may!!

Because marriage votes are taken as a routine part of the ceremony, I bet hiring the photographer is most thought of than the sacredness of marriage.

because they jumped and grabbed theFirst woman or man that came after them too soon and jumped into bed with them too fast and they waited it out a bit more and waited for sex till after marriage, they would've found out that they picked the wrong person and shouldn't have gone out with them in the first place as some people aren't meant for marriage as they are not even right with God much less people.

They are unwilling to give what it takes to keep a relationship going and healthy.
People get married before they are ready, to someone they though they were in love with.
Marriage is hard work but it is worth it in the end.

because they realize they can not devote thier life to that partner. because they realize the love they thought was so never-ending ...has already came to a halt! because they are not strong enough to get through the rough times of the marriage. because one just can not remian faithful for the rest of thier life.
