Not necessarily. Normally, you can run Spybot, Ad Aware and antivirus without going in to safe mode. However, there are occasions in which after the security program had removed the viruses and spyware, on reboot, they reappear. Why? Because there are other malicious files which resurrect them. In these cases, you need to go in to safe mode and scan again. In safe mode, everything but Windows is turned off which prevents such malicious files from resurrecting anything. Most antivirus software programs already scan during the boot process. Unfortunately, the same is not true for Spybot and Ad Aware.

Nope! You don't need to run any of these in safe mode :)
If you are worried about your system stability, Windows has something called a restore point (under the system restore utility), so if you are going to delete the spyware you have found, you can always create this restore point just in case Ad-aware decided to delete some critical component of your system (this has never happened to me, but it doesn't hurt to be careful!)

I do want to let you know, however, that I have had very big problems with Spybot. I was using both Spybot and Ad-aware, and it seemed to me like Ad-aware was doing the job just fine without spybot, and without all of the problems (lets just say it was a HUGE pain and very hard to fix).

Good luck, and kudos for keeping your computer safely and running properly. Most people don't do any of these things enough!

The major reason to run all scans in Safe Mode is that things that are running on your system cannot be altered. Once in a while it does not hurt to do a complete scan in Safe-Mode.

For the most part they can be run in normal mode. Sometimes there are some programs that replicate themselves in normal mode so you are better off to run spyware and antivirus software in safe mode if the problem recurs

In general to run checks you do not need to be in safe mode. You can run these normally, if they find a virus try removing it, if it cannot be done then you should boot up in safe mode.

You will get a deeper and better scan if you use safe mode. Some baddies are stubborn so scaning in safe mode will destroy them.

Give up using Windows, and install Linux on your computer. Linux is immune to all viruses, malware, spyware and adware.

BE COOL - GET LINUX
