The NFL did not start keeping official records on sacks until 1983. So even though the team stats show 9.5 sacks for LT in 1982 his rookie season, they are not considered official as far as NFL records go. However, it just goes to show how LT helped changed that aspect of the game.

Sacks were not an official stat until 1983. Deacon Jones of the Rams coined the phrase "sack" before a game in the 1970s. He mentioned how he would sack the quarterback and knock him out of the game. Unrecorded, but through films and past boxscores, it is estimated Jones had around 200 "sacks" in his career, including 11 in one game.

The NFL didn't start tracking sacks until 1982. Up until then sacks only counted as tackles.
Lawrence Taylor started in the NFL in 1981.

the league did not keep track of that particular play during his rookie year. i am guessing they only considered a sack a tackle and later on made a distinction.
