What is everyone's opinion about current #14 ranked Boise State Bronco and their football program?

Boise State runs a top-notch football program. Beginning with Dirk Koetter (who is now at Arizona State) and continuing to Dan Hawkins (now at Colorado) and now to Chris Petersen, it has been most about the team and finding the right players to fit into the system. Many of BSUs players are from Idaho, but more are coming from Washington, Oregon, and California (Pac 10 hotbeds for recruiting). The players they recruit may be overlooked by Pac 10 schools or BSU may have more to offer in terms of playing time.

2 years ago, BSU played Louisville in one of the most exciting bowl games ever. Given the current state of college, BSU could play competitively with most teams in the country.

I don't see them trying to switch conferences. The problem with their scheudling is that no one wants to go to Boise to play. When teams set up games agains marquee schools, the marquee schools will play them 3 times (but only at home). It would be nice to bring in a USC or Notre Dame to Boise. If they played in the Big 10, it would depend on who they play. BSU could beat any team this year, except Michigan and Ohio State (I believe they are the top 2 teams with Auburn/Florida/maybe Louisville and Texas thrown in as my top 6).


Also, because the WAC is considered a weak conference (usually Fresno and Nevada are better than they are this year), teams are afraid it will hurt their BCS chances by playing a weaker schedule. Actually, they are afraid of getting beat by Boise State.

BSU has a good football team and it will continue to get better every year. Zabransky has really shown his skills this year. He throws remarkably well on the run is and deadly fast....I would not be surprised to see Ian Johnson win a Heisman trophy his senior year (for those of you rolling your eyes, you obviously didn't see the way he dragged 2 or 3 PAC-10 linebackers up the field time and time again) Many will say that BSU is over-rated and they don't deserve the rankings based on their schedule...I think their ranking though is accurate..mainly based on the Utah and Oregon State victories. The bottom line is that this year's Bronco's are a great team...If the game was at home, they would beat all but maybe the top 5 teams....hopefully they can win the Fiesta Bowl should they make it and finally quiet the nay-sayers.

i think boise state runs a great program. i think this team is for real. i'd really like to see them switch to a BCS conference where they can play against other top teams more often. They proved they are for real with a win over Oregon State this year. Plus, their dismantling of Fresno State this week on national TV was impressive.

their schedule is too weak to give them the points they need to play for the BCS title, but if they go undefeated, they should get an invite to the Fiesta Bowl, where they will likely get to play against either the Big 12 winner, or a top Big East team.

not sure what their current committment is to the WAC, but they'd do good to try to book some non-conference games against top teams.. how bout an annual game against Notre Dame? i'd love to see that..

They are a solid program, but they will not get much respect with their current conference and the annually weak schedule. They need to find a beeter conference...like maybe the Pac-10(They would bring more to the table than Stanford) or even the Big 12(and would be a better opponent than Colorado). BSU is a stepping stone school for coaches right now. Until they get themselves a seat at the big boys table, they will have to fight for respect every year.

I think their "Papa Smurf Blue" field is cool. They have a solid program, but I don't think they are ready to contend with the major conferences in the NCAA. If they played in the Big Ten or SEC, they'd probably lose 3-4 games a season.
