Ellenrose, like hell it is - two AV's conflict to the point where you end up will less coverage that from one good AV application.
Good policy:
1 decent AV (SYmantec Corporate (available from their site), or AVG free - avoid Kapersky like the plague
1 or 2 Decent anti-malware applications - Ewido, AdAware
Also look at using Opera or Firefox as the primary browser, as the this also prevents a lot even getting in the door

Yes and no - antispy yes, as many as you like. Antivirus kind of - you can have several *but* it is very important that not more than one be installed to run at any time. You could have a few to run manually if you want to try different definitions on a particular file, but do not install more than one at a time.

Not really because your start up menu starts to become really slow. Many antispy programs have executeable files that continually run in the background and can bog down your computers performance. Find a good one and limit it to just one very good program. AVG is a free program that can do both for you. Just search AVG antivirus program on google. Good luck.

Yes in fact running one or more antispyware is a good way to
double check your system antivirus is differen't though you can go on the web to a sight like house call if you want a second opinion if your computer is clean rather than installing two competing antivirus products.

Two antivirus programs will conflict. And if that antispy is consistantly monitoring your system then no you only need one for the same reason.

More than one antispyware=Yes
More than one antivirus=No (try installing two decent antiviruses and the 2nd one will never install till you uninstall the previous one).. this is designed so that you do not get false `positive' alarms cause of the cleaning code of one of them being interpreted as `virus' code by the other

No,
In windows operating systems:
No more than 1 anti virus period
No more the 1 anti spy software running in background
But you can have as many anti spy (spy bot, pest patrol, Microsoft anti spy. etc...) as you want. Just as long as they aren't running in the background. Because only 1 anti spy should.
