I am a 37 yo nurse and mother of a 10 year old and a new born baby girl. Yes, being over 35 automatically puts you in the "high risk" category. BUT, that does not mean there is anything wrong with your baby. To make doubly sure I went ahead and did not have any of the other blood work tests done. I went straight for the amniocentesis and that proves 99.9 sure of sex and any abnormalities the baby does or does not have, no more questions to ask when you get the results and it sets your mind at ease. Good luck and here's to a wonderfully happy pregnancy, healthy boy or GIRL.... :-) I hope this helps you a lot !!!!

The triple screen test is really a crap shoot.. Most people I know that have had it, no matter what the age, it has come back saying their baby had downs(when the baby did not) I just had our 6th baby at the age of 35 and wouldnt have the triple screen done because there are too many false positives that will just stress out your pregnancy. My opinion and that of my Dr was to have the level 2 Ultra sound and if the tech saw anything that would raise a flag, we would go ahead with the Amnio (which is a for sure) But during the scan all looked find and I ended up recently giving birth to a very healthy 9lb 8oz baby boy.. Good luck to you.

oh my at least there is some one out there kinda like me! I am having my 4th and probally will be a boy again. Boys, Boys, Boys! But it's fun with boys! I am still very young but this baby has two signs of d/s and now at high risk! I turned down all test because I beleive that god will give me a blessing if it's bad or good! So Your age does play a factor but for me only being 22 yrs old, I am at high risk too! So don't think about that too much! Just know in your head and heart that the baby is going to be what it is. I know lots of people that have had babies well past their 35's and they were all fine. I do beleive your baby will be fine, put your faith in god! I hope everything goes great for you and you get the best of news:A healthy baby and a GIRL!!! I am hoping for a girl next time too!

My co-worker had a baby like 21 years after her daughter was born and she was just about your age. The baby is now 4 1/2 months old and thriving. She had a beautiful baby girl and went back to work. So keep the faith, pray and be positive!
I also have a friend who had to get some more tests done because everything pointed to her daughter being born with down syndrome. Her doctors were pretty sure, and since she has a family history of mental disability, she was worried, sad and crying a lot. My aunts are nuns, so they prayed for her and her baby, as did I, every day until the tests came back. And they came back negative! We were so overjoyed! I hope this gives you hope and positivity; believe in the Lord and take care of your beautiful baby. God bless you both!

I'm 36 and pregnant with my first. I had my TripT test at 16 weeks and the results showed that I was low risk. In fact I was in the same risk category as a 20 year old. So age doesn't necessarily deem you to be having a high risk pregnancy. Keep in touch wih your midwife so you get the results sooner rather than later and remember that the results won't be definitive.
Best of luck to you both.

I think a lot of these tests, are just there to scare women at times. It's easy to say don't worry, but it isn't.
If you've healthy babies in the past,i don't see why this one won't be.
Some test results have been known to be wrong,so think very carefully about what you'd do.I think you'll be ok
If you've got a very understanding partner, then i'm sure he's got mixed feelings as well.
Sit down and talk to him about the plus and minuses of having a poorly baby, you might find you can both work together on bringing the baby up.
Check out some of the pregnancy sites, for useful info and help.
Good Luck.

The test will come back as high risk probably due to your age. BUT that by no means indicates that your baby will def. be downs syndrome. i refused the blood test as I have no intention of having the aminiocentesis due to its miscarriage risk and if it came back as high risk, which it prob will as im over 35, I will end up worrying the entire duration of pregnancy. It is a risk im prepared to take. I wouldn't abort anyway so there really is no need to know. Good luck

hi
i wouldn't worry as im sure they explained at the talk the baby would be at risk as any baby is but i dont think u will have to worry about it as ur not like 10 yrs over 35, and as u have had healthy babies in the past if u carried the gene for downs syndrome it would of shown up by now, dont worry about it im sure u and ur baby will be fine
good luck and best wishes x

Well I'm having my first at nearly 35 and I tested low risk.
My mum had me at 36 and my brother at 42 and neither of us had any problems.
My Gran had her kids at 36, 38 and 40 and none of them had anything wrong with them at all.
Just being older doesn't automatically mean you're baby is at high risk of Downs or other problems. I know so many people who have proved this wrong. i feel its very unfair for the medical profession to constantly push this worry into people's minds. Younger women can have Downs syndrome babies and babies with problems as well!
