I had the same issue. Are you using Internet Explorer 7? This results from a compatibility issue with Internet Explorer 7.

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 from your computer will resolve this issue. However HP is aware of the issue and is working on a fix for customers who want to use both Internet Explorer 7.0 and HP Software. To be notified when the fix is available go to http://www.subscription.support.hp.com/hpss/SWSignup

Alternatively you may use the following work around solution (until the fix is available):

1. First check if HP Director is present in the task bar.

2. End the process hpqdirec.exe from the Process tab in Task Manager (Task Manager can be accessed by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL simultaneously).

3. Then minimize this chat window and perform below steps:

4. Run the HP Director (don't click anything yet so your HP Director's windows is still focus).

5. Press "alt+space" then choose minimize. You might need to click twice until it minimize.

6. Once it minimize to the bar, right click on it then click restore. The HP Director will run in a big window. It will run normally but you always have to do those steps (everytime) to run the Director.

Note: Please write down the steps mentioned above on a paper and perform the steps by minimize all windows.

Download the latest printer software from the HP Website and install it.

Link for the latest printer driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software7/COL15859/mp-42045-1/AiO_071_000_201_000_CDA_Default-Full_Network_AmericasEuro1.exe

Installation procedure:
Download and save the installation file (may be on to the desktop). During installation you will get a screen to connect the printer (USB Cable), DO NOT CONNECT THE USB CABLE, as the printer will not be recognized as the driver does not match.
You would find a check box at the bottom of the installation screen, put a check mark and you would get the "NEXT" button highlighted. Click Next and let the installation finish. After installing is completed, insert your PSC 1355 printer installation disk and then let this installation run, you will get a screen to connect the USB cable. Connect the USB cable now and it will configure the driver.

By doing this you will install the original driver with the Latest Software called HP Solution Center (HP Director is old program to control the printer).

It has worked for me, i'm pretty sure it will work for you too.
