ill keep it simple

The United States government began funding the mujahadeen in Afghanistan in 1979, under the Carter administration. The mujahadeen were Muslims who fought to repulse the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. One of the main leaders of the mujahadeen was a wealthy Saudi Arabian named Osama bin Laden. they spent millions and provided training and ak-47's etc etc.. and technecal stuff..

whats ur opinion about this?

Red herring. This was 30 years ago and it doesn't explain why Osama hates the US now, or why Bush didn't go all out to find and kill him after he plotted the murder of thousands of Americans.

Not any different than what Reagan did with Iran-Iraq from 1980-1988

Initially, Iraq advanced far into Iranian territory, but was driven back within months. By mid-1982, Iraq was on the defensive against Iranian human-wave attacks.

The U.S., having decided that an Iranian victory would not serve its interests, began supporting Iraq: measures already underway to upgrade U.S.-Iraq relations were accelerated, high-level officials exchanged visits, and in February 1982 the State Department removed Iraq from its list of states supporting international terrorism.

Makes sense to me.

In the 1980's the Soviet Union was a much bigger threat to the U.S. than Islamic terrorism is now. We're considered about the possibility of terrorists smuggling in ONE dirty bomb. The Soviets had tens of thousands of nuclear weapons in the 1980's, and could have launched them from ICBM's.

It's only reasonable that the U.S. was going to support anyone fighting against the Soviets. At the time we barely knew anything about Osama. What possible reason would we have had for not supporting him in his fight against our common, much more threatening enemy?

It's not news anymore. The whole world knows who made Osama what he is today? And the fact that the US has been arming, using such people, regimes, governments for its own ends and discard the same once the goal/goals are achieved.

we also backed Iraq in the war with Iran, when the soviets invaded Afghanistan the world responded. This is old news and has nothing to do with today, and by the way Jimmie Carter was/is a liberal coward, and did nothing for the USA.

Then knifed them in the back under Reagan when they tried to establish an independant democratic government. Reagan wanted a puppet government under US control!

Since I have never been a Monday Morning Quarterback I will say that it is too bad that things had to evolve into what they are now. No one could have predicted this.

Most people already know about this. We all understand that it was a mistake now, but hindsight is always 20/20

There are many, many more 'paradox' like this.

My opinion is that you never know when what you help create will turn around and bite you.
