Why do you need to replace them? Can any of the old stairs be used? My stairs were in bad shape too, but it's a huge mess to rip out the old, the collateral damage can be brutal. If you don't have to replace them all, don't. The only thing to be sure of is that they are structurally sound. This can usually be accomplished by strengthening the existing parts, then cover with carpet if they are unnatractive. If you have no other options, and you've never done this, then hire a professional to advise you at the very least. If you must replace, then consider buying the whole set of stairs from a supplier.

Building and installing wood stairs inside a home is difficult. It is usually done by experienced finish carpenters. It is tricky because you have to know how to mark and cut angles with a builder's square. And you have to make tread heights uniform at about 7" from top to bottom.

Building stairways is tough even with experience. Your best way is to take apart the stairs and use all the parts as templates for your new stairs.

gotohome depot, buy a stringer a bitlonger than what you need... cutit flush on the bottom where you want it then simply support it and brace the way it will fit on the landing, and simply mark it and cut ..
