I dont want to sound like a bad person, but has anyone noticed that the worse of us are making the most of us. While drug addict or the high school drop out makes 4 and 5 kids (many with different fathers who arent around) who have no chance to do anything except be involved with some sort of criminal element of society, many of our brightest, most responsible and productive people are choosing not to have kids at all or only 1 later on life as they pursue their career goals.

This is not a good situation.

Ah, you are a person who's cup is always half empty.

Don't worry - I tend think that way too.

The thing you need to remember is that there have always been problems in society. The difference is that now the media takes stories and runs with them.

There is always hope. No, we are not doomed. There are many babies being born to good families and some of them even to nuclear families.

At some point, we all grow up and realize that changing the world does not mean that we change large groups of people. Changing the world means changing a couple of lives and then those lives changing other lives.

I guess I'm a believer in paying it forward.

You are absolutely right, and it scares the crap out of me. We are devolving because the worst specimens of our species are the ones reproducing the most. The stupidity level of our country is already freaky, and it just keeps exponentially growing. Half the reason I plan to have kids is because I have an intelligent gene pool to work with and I feel it is my duty to add at least 2 more intelligent people to this world.

If the government would stop preaching abstinence and get some quality education about birth control out there that would definitely help this problem. All the uneducated people just screw everybody with no form of birth control while the smart people know how to prevent pregnancy.

Welcome to the 21st century...

It seems that now a days "family" is not even close to what its suppose to be... Our own government does not help create families... Just chaos.... Its better for the system to have a separated family (2 houses, 2 cars, 2 of everything) to generate more TAXES and revenue for the state than 1 of everything.

Plus your labor force is now 'everybody'.. not like the 50's were one income could support a family...

So yes people have kids later in life so they can get that fulfilling career that makes them work 10 hours a day and buy those materialistic things they want them to get....

Egocentric I think we have become...

Yes we are, I agree with you totally. The world is not getting any better, kids have no respect for the elders, parents not teaching their kids respect, manners and politeness.
Then these kids will one day run our world. WE ARE DOOMED.

It depends on what do You mean by "doom".
vanish of mankind - never
vanish of morality - already done
vanish of earth - somebody can say that we cant do that but practically we have done it already.
vanish of fantastic 4 - Dr. Doom is always victorious, even if he is dead.

Doomed, not yet. However, the law of entropy tells me we are moving in that direction.
