Software fundamentally is the unique image or representation of physical or material alignment that constitutes configuration to or functional identity of a machine, usually a computer. As a content of memory, software in principle can be changed without the adjustment to the static paradigm of the hardware thus without the remanufacturing thereof. Commonly software is of an algorithmic form which translates into being to a sequence of machine instructions. Some software, however, is of a relational form which translates into being the map of a realization network (see VHDL).

Software is a program that enables a computer to perform a specific task, as opposed to the physical components of the system (hardware). This includes application software such as a word processor, which enables a user to perform a task, and system software such as an operating system, which enables other software to run properly, by interfacing with hardware and with other software.

Computer hardware is the physical part of a computer, including the digital circuitry, as distinguished from the computer software that executes within the hardware. The hardware of a computer is infrequently changed, in comparison with software and data, which are "soft" in the sense that they are readily created, modified or erased on the computer. Firmware is a special type of software that rarely, if ever, needs to be changed and so is stored on hardware devices such as read-only memory (ROM) where it is not readily changed (and is therefore "firm" rather than just "soft").

A software interrupt is when a software counter or timer reaches its activating value which could be zero for a countdown timer or some value for a counter. A hardware interrupt is an interrupt from an external source such as someone pressing a reset button, or a movement sensor being triggered, or a switch on a door being activated.

Software is a computer program through which we realise our goals of programming. It is a set of instructions that directs the computer to process information. These instructions are programs. Without relevant software, the hardware would be useless. There are two types of software available for computers - system software and application software.
The physical components of a computer system including any peripheral equipment such as printers, modems, mouse, hard disc, floppy disk, and such devices.

Hardware is that thing you can touch and feel. It supports the software that you will install. HDDs, Video Cards, Motherboards, etc. are examples of hardware. On the other hand , software is that entity that you can neither touch nor feel, although you can see it on your monitor. It lies on the hardware.

Computers...HARDWARE... the mechanical, magnetic, electronic, and electrical devices comprising a computer system, as the CPU, disk drives, keyboard, or screen.

Computers....SOFTWARE..... the programs used to direct the operation of a computer, as well as documentation giving instructions on how to use them.

A girl in my class explained it to me once.
So now I basically think of it like this.
hardware...things you can see & touch.
software...programs running behinds the seens you can't see or touch.
kinda like that.

like a CD player. the player is the hardware and the CD is the program.

I can see & touch a CD player. but all you see is a spinning shiny disk for music & not the program at work translating it into music to our ears.
