the gripe water may help with gas but it doesn't always work. if the mother has any questions or feels uncomfortable giving the baby the gripe water due to the dosing instructions call your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what does the baby would need (by age and by weight) after that maybe the mom will feel more comfortable giving this to her daughter. also try laying the baby across your lap and pat her back as much as possible and try changing the baby's position quite frequently so that the trapped gas can work it's way out of her system. try using a baby swing, patting across the lap, patting the baby while she is on your shoulder, try sitting the baby upright while on your knee and pat her back. I know i had 2 colicky babies.
Good Luck and Take Care

Boiled 1/2 cup of water with some Annis seeds, let it cool a little bit (as you would drink it) and give it to the baby, this helps a lot to relieve her of the disconfort, just make sure you give her ONLY the water not the seeds.
If your sister already has tryed to make the baby burp, may be the baby is crying for something else, may be she is cold? may be she needs a change of diaper? , Tell her to check all posibilities and if nothing your sister should call the baby's pediatrician

This worked for my baby: I first gave him over the counter mylicon after each feeding. The baby does not need to be 1 month. My pediatrician told me about it. Then, if he started getting fussy/crying because of gas, I would carry him stomach down (like superman), my arms interlocked, supporting his head with my forearm, massaging his belly with my hand and swinging/rocking him at the same time (strongly). Sounds unconfortable, but you'll get used to it, and he loved it. He usually let a lot of gas out that way and fell asleep soon after. Good luck!

Make a cup of peppermint tea (Celestial Seasonings is my favorite brand). Pour 1 ounce into a bottle, and add 1 ounce water to dilute it. My mom did this with me, and I did the same with my baby at the same age, and it worked well. Also try massaging her tummy. I checked with the pediatrician on giving the baby diluted tea, and he said it's fine.
