STEP 1: Apply lip balm or petroleum jelly. You can also try coating your lips with skin moisturizer, vitamin E oil or aloe vera gel. These greasy products help keep your lips properly moisturized.
STEP 2: Use lip balm that contains sunblock if you are going to be outside.
STEP 3: Avoid licking your lips, since the saliva will evaporate and leave them dry.
STEP 4: Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
STEP 5: Consider moistening the air in your home with a humidifier.
STEP 6: Keep in mind that cracks at the corners of your mouth can indicate riboflavin deficiencies; you can treat this with vitamin B-2 supplements.

Cheap and cheerfull and used in hospitals. Hypromellose eye drops. Yes eye drops less than a quid from your chemist. Attracts and hold moisture in the lip area - used on babies lips. Doesn't sting apply as often as you like!!! Worth a try and can be used if you wish under lip balm. Be aware Vaseline is great to keep lips soft but very sore lips need a little more TLC.

Well you seem to be doing the right thing by drinking water.
Try using Vaseline (petroleum jelly) for your lips instead - it lasts longer than usual lip balms - you can get little lip care tins if you don't want to carry around a big pot of it.
Also, try not to lick your lips if they're feeling dry as this will actually dry them out more and make them crack easier (yes I know it sounds mad, but it actually does!).
Try and cut down on heavily salted foods like crisps and ready meals as they will dehydrate you even if you're drinking a lot of water, you don't need to totally cut them out, just cut down a little or use lower salt versions.

The best thing I have found is a lip balm from Aruba - the aloe capital! Try their website www.arubaaloe.com. Also the lotions they make are wonderful for dry skin in the winter and they have one for sunburns too! The alone really helps with the lips and it is nice and thick so it doesn't come off quickly but don't worry it is clear. Good luck!

Being a paramedic/firefighter, I get chapped lips ALL the time. Especially during the winter months when I am outside in uncontrolled environments for long periods, so I can feel your pain. Truthfully any lip balm will do...I personally prefer Carmex in a small tin, and when thats not available, I like Blistex medicated lip balm. I keep a tube in both my turnout gear and ambulance jumpsuit so its always handy. Another thing, until your lips are healed, you might want to try to cover them when going outside. Wrap a scarf around your neck and bring it up to your nose when you go outside. You want to get as little exposure to it as possible. If you follow these 2 simple steps your lips will be cleared up in no time.

Ingredients: Vaseline
Olive Oil
Butter
sugar
Instructions: I was reading this site and i saw all these good ones and i couldn't decide what to use! so i thought, "why not combine them and make my own?" I did and it works sooooo well! You want it to have mostly vaseline, half of the amount of vaseline put butter, then put 1 teaspoon each of the olive oil and sugar. The vaseline is the base, the butter moisturizes and plumps, the sugar exfoliates, and the olive oil glosses and moisturizes. It is the best home remedy you could ask for! It totally cured my chapped lips in a matter of hours!

Forget the lip balms. Most of them are flavoured so you end up licking your lips to get the flavour. Our doctor told my daughter [whose lips were so dry they were bleeding ] to use plain old fashioned vaseline. Now the whole family uses it. Swipe on before you go out, when you come in and before bed. It will take a few days to work but its worth it and its a lot cheaper than lip balm. It also comes in small tins to stick in your bag or pocket as wel as the plastic containers. Good luck!

Brush your lips with your toothbrush and toothpaste. Sounds pretty silly right? But it works wonders! By brushing your lips, you're actually exfoliating dead skin cells away and revealing softer and smoother lips instantly. After doing this step, apply lip balm as often as needed. Also, applying honey to your lips will work as a natural lip balm.

Hi there,
I too often suffer from dry lips. You should be carful of what lipstick you use and mind you always use Vaseline a petroleum Jelly for your lips, they will always stay soft and free from crack.
I never leave my house without my Petroleum Jelly in my bag. Try it its the best and you will write back to me that it has worked.
When you wear a lipstick it gives you a nice shine and makes your lips look so good!
