Most of those teens you described eat, breathe and sleep Hot Topic, which is not a bad store in and of itself, although most goths and punks would not be caught dead (ha ha) there, and the poser factor is out the roof. They're melodramatic, surly, and rebel by obeying the strict codes of nonconformity: wearing the same outfits, makeup, jewelry, listening to the same CDs, reading the same books, having the same opinions, et cetera. Most of them grow out of it (mercifully). "I dont see to many adults walking around all goth."
Depends where you live. If you went to certain parts of England (say Leeds) or America (say San Francisco or Philadelphia) you'd see lots. Lots of teens get into it and outgrow it, because their attraction to it wasn't very deep, or they got into to impress people, or because their friends were doing it, or because it was popular (which is really the opposite of what goth originally was about, go figure). But some stay goth grow into it very gracefully. There are goths in their fifties and probably older, as well as people who have interests that could very well be considered 'gothic'. Many goths don't describe themselves as such, though ("too poser-ish") so if you went asking for them, they probably wouldn't answer. Lots of goths do art, writing, psychology, architecture, philosophy, and so on and so forth, or start their own businesses.I hope my answer helped you out a bit!

What I don't get is that if they're trying to rebel and be individuals, why are there so many goths that look the same. That's not individuality, thats joining a sub-culture. I've never wanted to join any sub-culutre group before. It would be fun for a day, just to see what its like and see how people treat you but I'm pretty boring when it comes to fashion statements.

I used to be a "goth" kid It was just an expression we made, kinda of like well I dont want to be like my parents and I need to express myself this way. It was also the "cool" thing to be. I grew up just fine I no longer dress like that I went to college I hav a family of my own now, and I think as long as my kids are not in trouble or break the law a few piercings or odd dress is not so bad :)

it is just a way of expressing them selves. Every decade has their version of "goth" teens. The kids who do not conform to the popularity contest that high school can be. In the 80's when I was in high school we were called the "party-ers". Every generation is different...just wait to see what their kids will be into. Most of the "goth" teens just like look and it really doesn't mean much else.

It is just clothes, some people just like the style. It's like some other person wearing American Eagle clothes, it appeals to them.
