hey, i am currently playing flute. pls sumone explain to me, what is vibrato on flute? how does it sound? and how to produce it. thx

flute vibrato is the same thing as a vocal vibrato or a violin vibrato, it's where you hold the same note but vary the pitch. to make it, you vibrate your tongue (like you would roll a spanish 'r') and practice getting your mouth in the right position where you can blow into your flute and still vibrate your tongue. it takes a lot of practice.

like mamianka said, saying ha ha ha helps at first. you need to make sure that you are controlling vibrato from your stomach, not your throat, so make sure your stomach is moving some (though when you actually play vibrato it doesn't really move much). then i played some "words" into the flute, like blow a steady stream of air, and then with your stomach try and blow something like "hippopotamous" (sp?) into the flute with air pulses. After a while, it should come naturally and you can adjust how quickly/slowly you vibrato.
