I have pulled a muscle on my shoulder blade a few weeks ago been to the doctor said it will take up to 4-6 weeks to go and it still hurts quite bad. Should I go back to the doctors about it or wait a week until the 6 weeks are up!

Wait until the six weeks are up, at least. I pulled a chest muscle back in february and Im still getting pain from it now.

problem is that you use the muscle in your shoulder quite a lot, so its going to feel sore for a while.

I am really sorry - if you have pulled it badly you will probably still feel it for the next few weeks, if any worse, it could be months. It also depends on your age. If you are a youngster I am surprised you are still feeling it, middle aged, I'm not surprised.

It is likely that you will still feel a twinge now and again for the next few years - and when you start to age it will all come flooding back.

The human body cannot entirely repair damage. What you think is as good as new is only like a natural but permanent band-aid.

Our bodies try and are very resilient but humans are not designed to get so old as we do now, so when our bodies start to get old, all the aches & pains we had forgotten about and thought were gone start to return.

oh, yes: Pills can help but don't get too dependant - you can create more damage that way. And don't stop using it - it will only seize-up!

I'd like to answer this, but there are so many good answers already.

I can give you my experience though - my shoulder got painful once - and a rugby club physiotherapist said it was coming from my neck as I couldn't turn that very well.

He got me in a 'half nelson' on the piano stool and manipulated my neck - hey presto the nagging pain I had had for weeks which the doctors said was muscular spasm just went away. I haven't had it again since and that was about 30 years ago!!!

i would say to leave it for awhile and try to get the muscle relaxed in a natural way e.g. hav a hot bath or put a hot water bottle on it. do this for about a week every night and morning if you can and see the difference, if that doesnt work i would suggest to go back to the doctors and see what they have to say. take with you the medication they gave you they might perscribe something stronger or change the medication completly.

I too sprained my arm about 6 weeks ago and my doctor said it would take about 6 weeks to heel, but it still hurts really bad. i cant even turn the tap on if its turned too tight. i guess we will both have to be patient. take care and rest as much as you can.x

If it isn't any better I should go back to the doctor or find someone else. A physiotherapist might do something about a strained muscle or tendon

Im affraid to say but these sort off problems with pulled muscles can take mths to heal properly. If your experiencing alot off pain and discomfort you may need stronger pain relief .Go bck to your gp he should prescribe you stronger pain relief and anti-inflammatory tablets, theres not alot more they can do part from referring you.Take it easy.apply a hot compress not directly on the skin,do gentle exercises only the ones your gp should off shown you,or you make the problem worse.Good Luck

For this type of injury there is no quick fix. Time patience and gentle exercize plus a heat pad to ease pain.
