The english language is not DEFICIENT in exeptions to this rule - much more than EIGHT. So BEING EFFICIENT with my answer I will FORFEIT my LEISURE. In good CONSCIENCE I must state that many are of FOREIGN origin ALBEIT ANCIENT. EITHER the FEISTY GEISHA or the BEIGE SPECIES of ROTWEILLER SUFFEIT as SUFFICIENT examples. ATHEISTor believer in DEITIES, no NEIGHBOUR can FEIGN to SIEZE this knowledge. NEITHER HEIGHT nor WEIGHT can VEIL THEIR WIERD or HEINOUS REIGN.

The rule is 'i' before 'e' except after 'c', unless it makes the sound 'a-e' as in neighbor and weigh. However there are many other exceptions. If it makes the 'ee' sound it starts with 'e' and it it makes the 'i-e' sound it starts with 'i'. Also the word weird- but I just remember WE are weird to help remember that it is e before i. Either memorize the words you need to know, or use a dictionary or spell check to correct the words.

The rest of the rule says " - when the word rhymes with ee". Protein is one exception and ceiling is another

As you can see m8, there are loads of exceptions to this rule and whoever thought it up in the first place was quite clearly a Muppet

Weird is a definate exception. So's neighbour / neighbor. That explains why I can't spell them!

none unless you mispell the word. im a horrible speller though i think mainly because my fingers work faster than my brain.
