"(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."

No one knew this??...Amazing

Actually, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are engaged to be married and I THOUGHT that they were planning to be married in New York soon, now that gay marriage is legal there. But I could be wrong. But I agree, it's screwed up. Whatever. I'm not saying same-sex marriage WOULDN'T have those putter-out marriages of a few days, but they certainly have the right to be married and have those fail marriages, because people are people and love is love.

i'm not surprised (pleased but not surprised) it kinda makes his guest star appearance as a closeted gay man running a gay-cure group on will and grace all the more fun.

I had wondered that before, and I can't say I'm surprised. I do kinda like the show he's in now, "How I Met Your Mother"....his character is obnoxiously funny!

Yeah, I think this was about as big a secret as Lance Bass and George Michael.

Surprised me too.
Still feel that it is genetic, your biological make-up and not a choice, anymore than that I, as a woman am attracted to men....you are attracted to whomever you are attracted to, just like you are attracted to certain food, colors, cars, houses, clothes.
It is just part of what makes a person unique.
I guess it can only be healthy that people now feel more free to share and celebrate their personal choices and inclinations.
