No, Hitler was a National Socialist, which is not the same thing at all. He was also a fascist, though not as committed as Benito Mussolini in Italy.

And when you look at China and Soviet Russia, remember this - they may have called themselves communist, but they weren't communist at all. They behaved like totalitarian and fascist regimes in the sense of: no freedom of speech or expression, state control of the media, repression of intellectuals and artists, reliance on armed forces and the military to keep power, no free elections, etc etc. So no, they weren't from The Left at all. Not in reality.

If you want to see a less repressive form of totalitarian Left wing government, then look no further than Castro's Cuba or Gaddafi's Libya. Yes, many of their people will hate them for crimes against certain sectors, but on the whole, they are now loved by the majority of the populations of those countries, especially because they are stable regimes in an unstable international world.

But the bottom line? Once governments achieve power, they cannot afford to be the idealistic and truly left wing parties they were before. Why? Because they have to control the economy and the military and the bureaucracy / civil service, and when that happens, ideals go out the window. It's virtually a law of nature.

False, they can come from both sides its called Fasicsts on the Right like Franco and Mussinoni, and Communists on the left like Lenin, Stalin. Violent protests occur because the people dont have the education to work within the system or the goverment is so curropt the left, and right both are violenty protesting. Socialism has may different forms, as does Free Market economies, and its not so black and white with Trynaical goverment, and China practices crony captialism, but at least America we reduce the favor factory to manageble levels. Where China favors are given to loyal people 24 7 without regrads to merit and ability much. America there better oversight to prevent the marriage of business, and goverment in bed together.

It is because the far left does not believe in positive change and does not work in that direction. What they want is lockstep allegiance to their views. The far left is elitist and honestly believe they are more intelligent than the great unwashed masses. If you don't agree with their perceived brilliance you are either too stupid or too brainwashed to know what is good for you. So if they cannot control your views through legislation then they will use the courts. When that fails they take to the streets and shout as loud as they can about how intolerant everyone else is. My personal favorites are the antiwar types who claim they are pacifists then send death threats to those who dare to speak out against them.

uncle billy: Many Dictators start as social revolutionaries to gain power then try to take absolute power for themselves. I will show you one example to support this. Fidel Castro was a socialist right up to the point where he won the revolution in Cuba. How would you class this man today. He looks an awful lot like a dictator to me.

Leftist believe in central controlling authorities. Some leftist have no problem using violent means to accomplish this goal. Of course that is a personality driven thing... similar to a violent anarchists who wants no controlling influence at all and insist on 'fighting against the man.' Not all anarchists are going to throw a brick through your window.

So why is it that leftists usually resort to violent measures, I think it has more to do with the personality of the leader beyond his political beliefs. I seriously doubt the majority of the identified leftists politicians in the US would resort to extreme measures like Hitler.

But given absolute power, you can expect corruption in the mind and spirit. So, you have a political belief about a central absolute authority and you have positions that are unchecked. That's a recipe for disaster.
