Besides all the differences between NTFS and FAT32 file systems also note that there is no such a rigid restriction on the size of the file in NTFS file system. As for FAT32 file system the maximum size of the file in it is only 4 gigs.

There are two main differences between New Technology File System (NTFS) and File Allocation Table 32 (FAT32):

(1) NTFS makes more efficient use of hard drive space than FAT32 because it uses a smaller cluster size.

(2) NTFS allows the user to take advantage of the folder/file security settings that Windows 2000 Pro/Server and Windows XP provide.

NTFS is an attempt to force users to abandon older disk and operating systems and buy newer Microcrap "products".

The goal of NTFS is incompatibility, not superior performance. If performance were the issue, then Microcrap would have created a FAT64 system.

NTFS and FAT32 are different methods of doing the same jobs. Neither are better.

dear,

fat32: file 32 file system is used in all operating system. it si support win98/200/xp/2003. this is supported to all format. but in this fat32 file system we dont have that much security compare to ntfs.and we cant enable quotas in the fat file system

ntfs : this is new technologies file system . it supports win 2000 later operting system. it have the more security , data compression and user quota . other extra things.

now a days every body using ntfs file system . why because it is good in data storing and security. data compression. and data security and sharing limitation.

FAT 32 is the older file system form MS and NTFS is their newer file system. MS says that NTFS is more stable and has more security options, hence they recommend your HD to be formatted as NTFS during installing a new OS. You can find more technical details on the link below.
