Only observed on record for the first time recently. The New Planet Earth series (narrated by sir David Attenborough) have footage showing a lion pride killing an adult elephant - animal behavior never observed before. As a zoologist I certainly never heard of any such thing before, although I've seen pictures of lions attacking elephant babies.

It has happened! I've seen it on older animal shows when I was younger. However, it is extremely rare. All animals, use their energy like we should use our money. They have to replace what they use. They will not spend that much energy, along with take that much risk of being wounded, in trying to take down an adult elephant. Animals are usualy very smart when it comes to how much energy (money) their willing to spend to get what they want. The reason they will not do this is mostly because it effects the rest of the pride. If the pride looses a lioness in the attempt to take down an elephant, which their prob. would be several casualties, the prides chances of survival decreases dramaticaly!! Because, they hunt together in prides.

Elephants have very tough skin and can possibly withstand the clawing of the lions, but as powerful as an elephant is, I think the lions may come out on the short end of the fight. An enraged elephant and slap them all about with his trunk, and stomp many of them to death in quick time.

I'm fairly sure that thy wouldn't try - the elephant would just be too big for even a big pride and the skin too thick for them to suffocate their prey (their normal method of killing). Plus the chances of them being able to restrain a suffocating elephant would be not worth the risk. I think the only elephnt they'd ever attack would be a sickly baby. They tend to run away when challenged by adults.

Yes. Lion's can take down an elephant. If the elephant is old it's easy. Also if the elephant is sick.

Yes. In two ways: (a) if the elephant is old and dying, (b) if the lions are quite litterally starving they will attack and have succeeded because the elephant is also in a weakened condition.

Made dents interior the partitions. Threw stuff at a mirror. Broke it. Kicked the door in while it did no longer close on the 1st attempt.
