Unfortunately, with alcohol, especially drinks that are NOT beer, after two drinks, you are legally drunk. If you drink every day, you have a drinking problem.

Most people with drinking problems are quite insistent that they are fine, they can stop any time, etc. If your drinking is causing you any of the problems mentioned by other posters, then, yeah, get some help.

If you enjoy a glass of wine with your meals AND almost always stop at one glass (never more than two), no harm done, even if your ultra-religious grandmother thinks there is. But if more than one person is expressing concern, then you need to take a good hard look at why, when, and how much you are drinking.

If alcohol is one of the most important things in your life (meaning you think a lot about drinking), then get help.

Try not drinking AT ALL for one week. If it's not a problem to do that, you're fine. If you can't last out the week or find it really hard and start considering using other drugs to fill the void left by the alcohol, you're in trouble.

AA has helped a lot of people, but there are other alternatives, too. Talk to your doctor.

Just the fact that you're asking the question tells me that you probably have a problem.

You have a problem if:

1. You ever think that you "need a drink" rather than want a drink.
2. You leave work early or find ways to start drinking as part of your normal day.
3. You look forward to your next drink.
4. Once you start drinking you don't stop until you're drunk.
5. You "can't remember" what you did or said the night before.
6. You spend more than a few hours a week in a bar hanging out.
7. You fight with your spouse or loved ones about alcohol.
8. You have been late to work more than one time because you had a "bad hangover" but used a different excuse for your boss.

The fact that you are asking this means that perhaps you're already worried you have a drinking problem? Are you drinking every day? Would you be able to go without a drink for a week....easily? Do you drink in the mornings? Are other people commenting on the amount you drink?
When you drink do you always get drunk? I think these are some of the signs.

drinking problem? I drink, I fall over. no problem

Lady -"why do you drink so much, my man?" - Tottering drunk - "I don't, madam I spill most of it"

a drinking probelm affects your speling

are you thinking all afternoon - what shall I drink tonight instead of what shall I eat. Can you leave a bottle of wine half-finished and put it in the fridge?

when you are invited to have a drink, choose something you do not like much, then drink it slowly or hardly at all. avoid the crisps and peanuts, the salt makes you thirsty. with every glass of wine drink a glass of water.

if you can't make it through one day without needing (both physically and emotionally) to drink. even making it through with just one drink, if needed for p or e reasons, it's pretty certain you have a drinking problem.

If you feel like you have to drink everyday and that you can't function without being buzzed all the time.
