I have a bassinet next to my bed but I let my baby sleep in the bed next to me if she stays awake after a feeding or when she's cold. There are reports of women smothering their babies, but if you are aware if your baby (not intoxicated or overweight) it's very comforting.

Yes. We've never even owned a crib. This is our second baby and our first is still in our bed as well.
I love cosleeping. It just feels right to me. I love being able to respond to my babies' needs without sacraficing my sleep too much. Sure, it's hard at times and the bed gets crowded, but I think the benefits far outweigh the negitives of cosleeping.
Cosleeping is extremely safe, however there are basic precautions one should take when sleeping with an infant. Never go to bed drunk or high with your newborn. Get rid of the bulky, fluffy blankets and extra pillows (for a few months anyway). Have baby sleep on the side next to mom for a few months, until baby is bigger. Smokers and obese people should think twice about cosleeping-- it is slightly more dangerous for them to have a baby in their bed than other people.
Cosleeping deaths are rare, but they do occur. If proper precautions are taken, cosleeping deaths can be brought down to almost nothing. Here is a fact sheet about cosleeping and SIDS that is interesting: http://www.babyreference.com/Cosleeping&SIDSFactSheet.htm

Yes, I have coslept with my children. Cosleeping *IS SAFE* if you follow certain guidelines. You should not cosleep if you are morbidly obese, if you are taking drugs or drinking alcohol (this includes some OTC drugs that could make you too sleepy). You need to have a firm sleep surface and keep fluffy bedding away from baby. (I used a smaller blanket that just covered me instead of making the bed up with lots of blankets. Don't leave baby unattended in an adult bed. Take precautions so they can't fall out of bed. (Baby in middle, bed rail, bed tightly pushed against wall, etc.)
Babies and mothers who cosleep tend to get more sleep (especially if they are breastfeeding). The mother is usually very intune with the baby and will often wake just before the baby does!
Unless you are impared, the odds of rolling over on your baby are very slim. Think of it this way....how often do you fall out of bed? You don't! You have a sense of where the edge of the bed is, even in your sleep. It's the same for mom and baby. A mother (again, especially if she is breastfeeding) has a sense of where her child is in the bed.

that must be risky. Your 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous ought to accidently roll over on your 6 month previous, in all probability inflicting suffocation or different harm. If conscious your 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous might cope with the toddler like a doll, because of the fact 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days olds do no longer alway understand to no longer, regardless of in case you coach them otherwise. while you're hurting for area you need to place your toddler in a playpen that could fold up in the process the day until eventually you experience mushy with your 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous being in a toddler mattress or toddler's mattress. because of the fact you may fold it up in the process the day you may placed it interior the room you choose the youngsters to proportion, or yet another room if it works out greater suitable. once you bypass finding for double strollers the type with one toddler in front and one in back is way less stressful to push than the side to side kind and has greater area for storing. additionally %. the stroller with the main area between the two youngsters. I remember my toddler pulling my toddler's hair with the 1st one i attempted. I had to alter the seat until eventually she replaced into almost laying all the way down to make her quit. the subsequent one with greater suitable area replaced right into a lot greater suitable. i think of it replaced into Graco.

Yes! I was reading in my Dr Sears THE BABY BOOK and there is an interesting anecdote from an anthropologist. This anthropologist was working in Africa, if I recall correctly and one of the mothers asked her if it was true that American mother's put their babies in cages when they sleep! All over the world, babies are sleeping with their mothers. Not only does it promote bonding but it is the most natural thing in the world to do. Co sleeping parents do need to follow certain guidelines when sleeping with their babies but it can be done safely. There is none of this cry it out nonsense.

I know it's not a very good idea but yes my baby sleeps with me .. at first It was because it's so much easier when they are first born and get up every 3 hours to have them in bed with you... and I've never rolled on him or anything like that I guess I'm fortunate but next baby will be in bassinet from day one! a lot of people let their babies sleep with them so it's up to you. good luck

I wouldn't do that.
The baby needs his own bed. And like one person said, it would be very easy to roll over on it.

It is not a good idea. You need your space to sleep and it may be easier in some ways but it is hard to break the habit later. My first two slept in there own crib and third didn't and it was a mistake. My first two slept through the night a lot sooner than the third. I would not do it again.
